After having a lot of success this morning, I decided to head back out to the lake and try to catch some bigger bass in the evening. This is the first time that I’ve ever fished a lake twice in one day, so this was definitely a new experience for me. I had already fished the whole right side of the lake, so I started by fishing the rest of the docks that I had missed on the left hand side of the lake near bass cove. I fished there for about an hour and a half, but to my dismay all of the docks were weedy and I was unable to get any bites. After that disappointment, I headed over to the Vasa Park area and fished a few docks around there. Yet again, I came up empty handed. I had lost almost all hope and there weren’t many docks left that I hadn’t fished, so I decided to go back and fish the v-shaped dock area. I got skunked at the v-shaped dock, but then the clock struck 9:00 and something magical happened. I cast over to the next dock and felt my line tighten up. I set the hook and landed a nice 1.3 pound smallmouth. I quickly put on another worm and made another cast. I felt something absolutely hammer my bait and had a nice fight with a 2 pound smallmouth. I moved on to the next dock and made a perfect cast. I felt a bite and fought with a smallmouth for a good amount of time. Unfortunately it jumped up and shook the hook before I could get it in the boat. I would estimate it to be a solid 1 pounder. The fourth dock that I came to was a little shallower, so I casted a few feet off of it to get my lure into deeper water. As soon as it touched the bottom, I felt a bite and set the hook. After a good fight, I was able to land a 1 pound bass. Unfortunately it got too dark to fish anymore, so I was forced to head in and call it a day. With four bass on four casts, I have to say that this is probably the craziest bass fishing experience that I have ever had.
Observations: As with this morning, the water temperature ranged from 63-66 degrees. The bass that I caught were all a little shallower in around 10-23 feet of water and they were all caught after the sunset. The bass were actively feeding at this time and put up a great fight for their size. As I have caught a lot of my bigger bass in the evening, I am starting to believe that evening is the best time to go fishing on Lake Sammamish. All in all, it was a fantastic fishing day for me and I can honestly say that I will never forget those fifteen minutes of bass catching frenzy.
