As summer comes to an end, one thing that a lot of bass fisherman forget is the effect that weather can have on soft plastics. Soft plastics have the most action when they are kept warm and flexible. During the summer, this isn’t a problem because the high outside temperatures keep them pliable. However, in the cold fall and winter months, soft plastics can become very hard and tend to lose the erratic action that entices fish to bite. In order to deal with this problem, I always suggest keeping your soft plastics in as warm as a place as possible. One thing that I like doing is taking all of the soft plastics I know I am going to use for the day and storing them in my coat pocket. Not only does this keep my plastics warm and pliable, but also allows me to quickly swap my lure out.
