Background: The dream shot was designed by Kevin VanDam himself and was actually based off of the caffeine shad design with its triangle hinged tail section. Along with having this killer design it is made with Strike King’s Perfect Plastic material, which is extremely durable and holds its coffee and salt scent indefinitely.
Value: 5 stars
To me there are three different factors that I consider when talking about value. First is obviously price. Second is quantity and third is it’s bass catching ability because let’s face it price doesn’t really matter if you are slaying them out on the water. These worms come in at $4.59 on tackle warehouse and each pack of dream shot worms come with 10 worms, which puts the individual price of each worm at 46 cents per worm. If you look at this alone, these worms come in at a middle of the road price point, but what makes it a 5 out of a 5 in value is it’s bass catching ability. These worms aren’t called dream shot for nothing and are some of the best drop shot worms that I have ever used, giving them a max rating.
Durability: 2 stars
Even though it is made with the Perfect Plastic material, I have found that perch easily nibble off the tail, so I have to constantly change out my worm. Along with this, if you miss-hook the tip of the worm it also makes it totally unusable if you nose hook them like I do. Finally, with these worms you have to be sure to check how they are hooked before each cast because they will wear down and fly off when you cast them.
Color Selection: 3 stars
Now these worms only have a selection of 13 colors, but even with this slim selection I have found each and every one of these colors extremely effective. My favorite out of the 13 are the classic green pumpkin and watermelon dream shots. That being said, the colors that they do have are extremely basic and if I ever need a specific color for a lake, I will have to look somewhere else.
Size and Shape: 5 stars
As mentioned before the dream shot is a smaller version of the caffeine shad, which is an absolute brilliant design. I love the shape of these worms and the bass seem to feel the same way. They are most effective when drop shotting for smallmouth bass because of their long, skinny design. To add to this they are only 4 inches long, which perfectly matches the size and shape of small baitfish that smallmouth seem to love.
Action: 5 stars
This is the category where this bait really shines. The dream shot is extremely versatile because it can be fished with erratic action and with subtle finesse action. This makes it ideal to use in all different situations and makes it so you have many different types of action to try and trigger that bass to bite.
