I got out of the lake around 11:40 a.m. and immediately went back to the hot dock that I was catching crappie at yesterday. I kept making casts there, but wasn’t able to catch anything else, so I decided to try some of the docks on the other side of the lake. I motored over there and found a few docks that weren’t too weedy and were out in the 15-18 foot depth range. I made a few casts and on the 5th one I cast down the left side of a dock and was able to hook into a nice 1.5 pound smallmouth bass. I then continued working the docks on that side, but wasn’t able to land any more bass, so I decided to go back to the other side of the lake, closer to the Seahawks training facility. I tried those docks for a while, but wasn’t able to get anymore bass. However, I did mange to catch a few more big crappie, which added to the excitement. Without any more bass bites, I headed in around 3:00. The picture shows the bass that I caught, along with the bass that my dad caught. My dad’s bass weighed in at 1 pound, so mine is the bigger one in the picture.
Observations: Once out of the canal, the water was a lot colder, ranging from 68-72 degrees. I managed to catch my bass on the left side of a dock in about 13 feet of water, which is about right considering the water temperature. I noticed that the key to finding quality bites is to find docks with depths from 13-18 feet, that do not have any weeds near them because Lake Washington seems to be weed infested.
