I got out a little later today around 6:30 p.m. and noticed that it wasn’t as windy and choppy as yesterday. I had also just received a shipment of new tackle and wanted to give the new Lunker City worms a try on my drop shot. I decided that I would try and fish the points today because in the previous trips I had not yet hit all of them, so I motored over to a small rocky point on the right hand side of the lake. When I got there the sun was beating directly on it and the water was 80 degrees, so it didn’t seem ideal. However, the structure that it had made it look promising and I decided to give it a go. I passed a few docks without any success, until I spotted a big submerged rock lying next to one of the dock pilings. I knew that there would be a bass their, so I made a cast and was able to land a monster 3.5 lb smallmouth bass. This monster qualified as my biggest bass ever caught on Lake Sammamish and put up a great fight. After that I couldn’t muster another bite and decided to move to the large point on the left hand side of the lake. I tried the docks to the left of the point without any success, but as I got closer to the point I found a piling that was located next to the dock and casted it right in between the two. As soon as the bait hit the bottom a smallmouth smashed it and I was able to land a nice 1.5 lb bass. I continued trying for another 10 minutes, but couldn’t get anything else, so I decided to head in around 9:00 p.m.
Observations: The water temperature remained high at around 78-80 degrees, even in the deeper parts of the lake. The bass seem to get deeper and deeper as I caught my two in 18-22 feet of water, but this is to be expected with the sunny days and the increase in water temperature. Something else that I noticed was that the bass seemed to be in between two pieces of structure and only when I found that was I able to catch a bass.
